Micky's (Huntersville)

At the recommendation of one of my readers, I decided to visit Micky's in Huntersville. It's a deli off of 115 and is located between Stumptown Rd. and 73. To be honest, I didn't even know it existed, and I've driven this stretch of road many times.

So, yesterday I met a friend at Micky's so we could check it out and see what we thought. We entered, and the layout is pretty self explanatory. There's a large menu behind the register, a counter where you order and pay, and to the left is a HUGE room for dining.

After a quick look over the menu, I decided on Micky's Club. It's a sandwich with roast beef, ham, turkey, and bacon; with lettuce, tomato, and American cheese on a Kaiser roll. I also got a side of fries. After we ordered, we found a seat in the VERY empty dining room.

It's apparent that the dining room is under construction, or at least it soon will be. Tables are stacked on top of each other and the building plans were laid out in the middle of the room (I snuck a peek). The walls are mostly bare, and it felt a little awkward sitting down in there. I mean, this is almost a construction zone, were we allowed to be in here?? (Yes, we were.)

A short while after we ordered, our meals were brought to us. My sandwich was quite good. The Kaiser roll was so-so. However, the fillings of the sandwich were delicious. The ham, turkey, and roast beef seemed fresh, and the bacon was crispy. In addition, the lettuce and tomato were fresh too. I was slightly turned off by the American cheese (lets face it, it's not really a cheese), but this wasn't enough to make me dislike the sandwich.

Also the fries were really good. Cooked nice and crispy on the outside and tender inside. They were obviously cooked just for this order, and they were hot and delicious.

It should be noted that the woman behind the register was friendly and patient while my friend and I looked over the menu. It was a nice surprise when she brought the food to our table. I was expecting that we'd have to retrieve it ourselves.

Score:
Atmosphere: 2/5 (when it's no longer under construction, I'll need to re-visit)
Food: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Total: 10/15
Price: $ (sandwich, fries, and drink just under $10)
Kid Friendly: Yes. They have a kids menu and a high chair.

Conclusion: Micky's has mostly standard deli fare: soups, sandwich, salads, etc. But the food was quite good, and the service was more than expected.

  1. This is one of Huntersville's best kept secrets. Their Carolina burger is to die for and I never miss an opportunity to have the home fried chips. The staff is friendly and keeps you coming back.

  2. Since I am an avid Foodie reader, I thought I would send you an update on Micky's. They have recently remodeled and reopened a few weeks ago. It has more of an upscale bar feel with higher end 'bar food' at an affordable price. They have a great drink list, too, which includes martinis, mojitos, and other foo foo favorites as well as a great beer and wine list. Overall, the new atmosphere and food is fabulous and I would love to hear what you have to say about it too!

  3. Just tried Micky's. We were so disappointed! The food is average and over priced. It is an uncomfortable bar atmosphere trying to be an upscale restaurant. The service was unbelievably poor! We waited well over an hour for our food. No one apologized or even tried to remedy the situation. Would not recommend it to anyone!!!

  4. Visited the new Micky's last night and was very impressed. The menu, while somewhat short has several innovative items which we found to be well executed. Since it was a Monday evening, all bottles of wine were half price. We shared a a very good Silver Palm Cabernet for $17.50. We also shared the sundried tomato and artichoke dip which was served in a very tasty bread bowl. The entrees we ordered were also first rate: a generous herb encrusted salmon for $17.00 and a hickory smoked bacon wrapped strip steak for $19.00. The meal was even more of a bargain since we had previously purchased a $25.00 certificate for $2.00 @ restaurant.com. The service, while enthusiastic, needs to be tighten up a little. Overall a very pleasant surprise which certainly warrants a return visit.

  6. My husband and I enjoyed an incredible meal at Micky's Friday night. I found the atmosphere in the bar area to be wonderful and will definitely go back to sit in the bar for drinks. On this night however, we enjoyed sitting outside on their patio. Our server was very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious! We split the brownie dessert which was to die for and we found the prices to be very reasonable. We left full and happy and will definitely go back.

  7. My wife and I took 3 of our business partners to Micky's last Saturday and it was beyond breathtaking - The food presentation is the best I've seen around Lake Norman (especially the Cast-Iron Tuna Salad). The guys each got the Bourbon Rib-eye, while I decided on the ribs. A few martinis and an Irish Car Bomb later, we've decided to make this a weekly outing. Highly recommended - great atmosphere, food & wine, and service!

  9. Sounds to me like you need to revisit the place. Theres always a short time when a place first opens and I have also been checking it out from day one. I have taken several business guests and personal friends and have never been more satisfied. Mickys rates with high marks on my list and I am very glad to see a more upscale yet down to earth place. -RB

  10. RB, yeah I do need to revisit. My understanding is that it is now more restaurant like, and less like a deli. Isn't the new name Micky's Bistro?
